Two Victorian Conferences

My team teaching partner, Kelly Jordan, and I have been accepted to present at two conferences in Melbourne in May.

As many of you know, Kelly and I have been blogging with our primary classes since 2008 and it is something we are passionate about after seeing so many benefits.

In our presentations, we plan to cover topics such as:

• How to get starting with blogging
• How students react to blogging
• The many benefits of blogging
• How to incorporate blogging into the curriculum
• How to address internet safety issues
• How to use blogging to flatten classroom walls and build global connections and projects
• Some of the web 2.0 tools that can be incorporated into blogging

What do you think makes a good conference?

Both conferences sound excellent Kathleen. Are they only open for Victoria teachers? It definitely sounds like Victoria is leading the way with ICT innovation and integration. I would love to see South Australia doing something similar.

To answer your question, I think presenters at conferences who understand and acknowledge that teachers come from all different types of teaching/school contexts is important (this limits the “this is how I do it therefore this is how you should do it” talk). I also like a to learn about both theory and practical classroom ideas. Engaging presenters who are passionate about what they are doing with their students and time allowed for collaboration between participants at a conference also helps!

I’m sure both your presentations will be engaging – wish I could attend. Good luck 🙂

      @ Jessica,

Good question. I’m sure anyone can go to ICTEV but as for the DEECD Showcase, I will find out!

Terrific advise about what makes a good conference presentation. I totally agree and hopefully I can replicate that in my own presentations!

      Thanks for your comment!

I just heard any educator can go to the DEECD Innovations Showcase. Great news!

  2. Hi Kathleen,
This is my first time blogging, however I have been reading your blogs for a few months now. I have been getting some great ideas for when I have a class of my own. At the moment I am a CRT and you and the other links you have posted have really inspired my teaching practice.
I have booked to come to your conference on the 13th. I look forward to your talk and to meet you in person.
Keep up your blogs, they are fantastic.
